Think twice about these Supplements PDF Print E-mail

Most people take some form of vitamins or supplements, either regularly or sporadically. In fact, Americans spend over $26 billion dollars a year in health supplements.

And while I generally agree that adding good nutrients to your diet in supplement form can be a good thing, there are certain supplements that you want to avoid, or at least make sure you are taking a high quality version of the supplement.
Before I give you the list, here’s a few things you might now know about supplements:

* Supplement manufacturers routinely and LEGALLY sell their products without having to demonstrate that they are safe and effective.

* Because of inadequate quality control and inspection, supplements contaminated with heavy metals, pesticides, or prescription drugs get sold to consumers. FDA rules covering manufacturing quality don’t apply to the companies that sell herbs and vitamins. (That’s why it’s so important you buy vitamins and supplements from professional sources)

* China is a major supplier of raw supplement ingredients and has repeatedly been caught exporting contaminated products.

Here are the supplements to look out for:

* Aconite* Bitter orange* Chaparral* Colloidal Silver* Coltsfoot* Comfrey* Country mallow* Germanium* Greater celandine* Kava* Lobelia* Yohimbe

Why are these still for sale? Because the FDA has not banned them. So either avoid them or make sure you are getting professional grade quality if buy them. In fact, make sure all of your vitamin and supplement purchases are made from a health professional and are professional grade. You will pay a little bit more in price, but the difference is worth it because you will be spending your money on a quality product instead of throwing your money down the drain.

Have a great day!

Coco Cola's "Vitamin Water" Found To Be Not Healthy PDF Print E-mail

I’m sure you’ve noticed how energy drinks and sports drinks seem to be the craze these days. And if you haven’t noticed, just know that these beverages sell to the tune of billions of dollars each year.

Have you heard of Vitamin Water? Have you seen their commercials?

Coca Cola owns Vitamin Water.

And in response to a lawsuit filed by the Center for Science in the Public Interest (CSPI), Coke’s attorney’s replied in court briefings that, “…no consumer could reasonably be misled into thinking Vitamin Water was a healthy beverage.”
The reality, of course, is that millions of consumers WERE misled into believing Vitamin Water was a healthy beverage. The name itself makes you think you are drinking vitamins and water, right?
Wrong.

If Vitamin Water were accurately named, it would be called Sugar Water. It’s first two ingredients are sugar and water. In fact, there are 32 grams of sugar in every bottle. The drink also has a bunch of synthetic vitamin chemicals that aren’t really quality vitamins at all.

So the reality is that Vitamin Water is really just sugar water with a bunch of synthetic chemicals added.

Coca-Cola has tried to argue its way out of the lawsuit, but the facts are so obvious here that a federal judge has denied Coca-Cola’s motion to dismiss the lawsuit.
So unless you want a high sugar drink with synthetic chemicals added to it, don’t drink Vitamin Water. And when you are choosing drinks, make sure you read the label first to see what’s in there. Companies practice “deceptive advertising” all the time to get you to buy their products. So read the labels and choose carefully.
Have a great day!

Sincerely,

The health risks of big belly PDF Print E-mail

The Archives of Internal Medicine just released some information that I thought was interesting, so I wanted to pass it on to you.

The information released is about stomach size: Belly bulge can be deadly for older adults, even those who aren’t overweight or obese by other measures.

This is one of the largest studies to examine the dangers of abdominal fat, and it suggests men and women with the biggest waistlines have twice the risk of dying over a decade compared with those with smaller tummies.

What’s surprising is bigger waists carry a greater risk of death even for people whose weight is “normal” by the body mass index (BMI). (The BMI is a standard measure based on weight and height)

The lead author of this new study, Eric Jacobs of the American Cancer Society, had this to say; “Even if you haven’t had a noticeable weight gain, if you notice your waist size increasing, that’s an important sign. It’s time to eat better and start exercising more.”

This is the newest study on the risks of a large belly, but there are other studies that have linked waist size to dementia, heart disease, asthma, and breast cancer as well.
Bulging bellies are an increasing problem for Americans older than 50. It’s estimated that over half of older men, and over 70% of older women have bigger waistlines than recommended.

If you’d like to measure your stomach to see if it is a healthy size, take a tape measure and wrap it around your waist at your belly button. Do not suck in your stomach when doing the measurement. Stand normally. Men should have a waist circumference no larger than 40 inches and women the limit is 35 inches.

If you find that your waist is larger than these numbers, then consider increasing your exercise or modifying your diet to get down into the normal range.

Email me any questions or comments and I’ll get back to you!

Have a great day,

How Chiropractic Works PDF Print E-mail
Today I want to share with you how chiropractic care works.  I've found that the
patient's who get this information are not only much happier, but they also get better
results.

I want to start off by asking you two questions:

If somebody wants to become physically fit, how do they do it?  Can they exercise
one time and get "in shape"?  Or do they need to exercise several times a week for
several weeks before they are "in shape"?

What do you think?

I think you'd agree that exercising one or two times may make a person feel great
that day but it doesn't mean they are in shape.  If a person wants to become
physically fit, they have to make a commitment to exercising several days each week
for several months.

It's unrealistic and impossible to get in shape in one, two, or three workouts.  Getting
in shape is a process that takes time.

Do you agree?

Well, chiropractic works exactly the same way.  In order to get your spine "in shape"
and heal the cause of your pain and health problem(s), you need several chiropractic
adjustments.

Each adjustment you receive builds upon the previous adjustment.  No one
adjustment does the job.  It's the accumulated effect of several adjustments over
several weeks that heals your body and makes you feel great.

Just like getting in shape physically is a process that takes multiple workouts,
healing and rehabilitating your spine, joints, and muscles is also a process that takes
multiple treatments.

An orthodontist can't straighten crooked teeth in a few weeks either. It takes time...
usually a couple years.

Every once in a while I get a new patient who asks me, "Doc, why can't you just fix
my problem in 1 or 2 visits?"

The answer is because that's not how it works.  Your body needs time to heal. There
is no shortcut or quick fix to change this.

Getting one or two chiropractic adjustments is like taking a few pain pills.  They may
provide some temporary relief, but they won't fix your problem(s) or heal your body.

Does this make sense?

During the initial phase of your chiropractic care, you will get the best results if you
get adjusted several times a week for several weeks.  Once your body is healing and
improving, the frequency of your visits will decrease.

To summarize:

* Healing is a process that takes time and repetition.

* Each chiropractic adjustment builds upon the previous adjustment.  If you are
injured or just starting out, multiple adjustments will give you a better result than one
or two adjustments.

* There are no quick fixes or short cuts to being healthy.  To be healthy and pain
free, you have to make a commitment to doing what it takes to get healthy and
stay healthy.

Have a great day and I'll talk with you soon!

Sincerely,

Dr. Greg Bond
